stick to what you know

we all have this problem: we have so many ideas jumbled in our brains and we have the energy of pepco, on a day when there isnt a thunderstorm. nevertheless...we feel like we need to do EVERYTHING! and all at once. sometimes, we honestly need to perfect our craft and then think about expansion.

House of Dereon, mmmmm, not so much. somehow Beyonce and her mom have moved from clothing line to a very RANDOM temporary tattoo line that will be sold at sephora. uhhhh, so we're not even moving into the beauty category - something that will have longevity, but temporary tattoos??? ::side eye::

it all stemmed from Beyonce's most recent ad for House of Dereon.

while i admit, i definitely like the spine tattoo on her back, what else can i say except its the same temporary tattoo idea from Chanel that sold in stores back in March. yawn. Chanel is a iconic fashion powerhouse, they're allowed to expand into any arena they want. House of Dereon, well, what have you conquered in the fashion world?
Perfect your craft, dear.

another jimmy collabo

i know we all remember when Mr. Choo collaborated with hunter boots for the fabulous black and silver croc wellies. i drool just thinking about them (we should all have a pair in our closets by now). well now he's teamed up with every girl's favorite comfy boot - Ugg.
Think comfort coupled with wild animal prints and rockstar studs. what more can a girl ask for?

Oh! and how could i forget...we're getting another addition to the Georgetown family. an Ugg store is opening up on September 30th on Wisconsin Ave. Whoopie

make room on your accessories palatte

in an age of "making a statement", there's no better way to speak through your clothes than exotic jewelry. you can easily make all black everything POP with a dash of enameled necklaces or a shimmery gold cuff. consider your outfit the broth of your personal primordial soup and your accessories the yummy ingredients.

House of Harlow is one of my current favorite jewelry lines. the edge of tribal designs coincided with the whimsicality of girly things like headbands is enough for any girl to find something her style. admittedly, i'm more on the side of the leather cuffs than a beaded headpiece...but to each her own.

out with the old, in with the...oversized

long gone are the days of "baby" tees and anything super tight (thank God!). now it's all about the laid back, the comfortable, the grunge chic. tees all over are now being made in a relaxed fit - slouchy, stretched out and yeah, even a little sloppy. what makes this look discheveled sexy and stops it from looking like your old bedtime tee, is pairing it with accessories. A vintage looking belt, a bad ass pair of heels, a structured bag. in fact, many of these tees come with their own embellishments to stress the validity that sloppy is sexy. think zoe kravitz. (my personal favorite fashion icon). whatever you do...lets not bring back the 90s. remember its supposed to be SLOUCHY not BAGGY. we don't wanna go walking around like bums, now do we??

here are some of my favorite tees:

light brights

proenza schuler

the quickest way to spice up any drab outfit is to add a little color. but what if you want a little more than spice? there's nothing more attention grabbing than neon. why do you think times square is a big jungle of neon?? no need to be shy...go on girl, get your aurora borealis on.

back to the future

it seems such a strange name...but stranger still is the collection itself. created by Ukrainian designer Vera Balyura, Verameat is a mishmash of trinket necklaces, rings and things that represent random products of our environment from times past, present and on the border of futuristic. dinosaurs, moon men, centaurs and airplanes only scratch the surface of her fanciful collection.

no matter what the charm is, each designed piece has a distinctly handmade touch to it. the whole "attention to detail" motto is down to a science. from the on/off heart switch on the robot to the painstaking recreation of "edward's scissorhands" (one of my absolute favorites and NOT JUST because i love the movie), you have to admit, you're gonna get your monies worth.

i'm all for vegan, recycled and organic products - Vera's creations are no exception. all items are made of recycled silver and brass material, or 18K gold, so you may spend a little more green, but don't have to worry about your fingers reflecting the same tragedy.

check out more of vera's stuff here.

a bag for everything

every woman should have a statement bag in her wardrobe artillery. the problem is, i'm sick of seeing the monogram Louie's and Gucci's - as if that's the only two designers that exist in the world. having a statement bag does NOT mean buy the same speedy every other girl has.
i've heard the argument that the neutrality of those bags make them appropriate with every outfit...but, can't we find another bag that's neutral, stylishly structured and comes in different shapes and sizes to fit the occasion? ahhh, yes. please embrace Reece Hudson. her current collection follows the above criteria with ease and you can still make that STATEMENT without making the same statement as the girl shopping next to you.

GaGa graces Elle

what better way to jump start the new year than with the powerhouse of pop, fashion icon, Lady Gaga. i could gush about how much i adore her, buuuut, i think you'd rather just glance at the pictures of her rocking Lagerfeld, Jil Sander and Margiela, to see why she's so awesome.

Hu's clothes are those?

don't you just love georgetown boutiques? (yeah, i know...who doesn't?) anyone who's familiar with M Street can attest to the many stiletto-induced comas at the sight of Hu's Shoes. well it gets better, ladies and gentleman. Hu's shoes has now branched off to another store: Hu's Wear. as with many of the boutiques, it's a little pricey, but the objects of desire are to die for. not only that but recently, i've been hearing TONS of raves about how great the customer service is there. you can't ask for more than great clothes and great service. makes the shopping experience THAT much better. so sca-daddle your butts down to 2906 M St NW, if you haven't been by since their grand opening. ahem. what are you waiting for?
