ladies, you can do better

so i heard there was a victoria secret sale going on...but really, aren't we getting a little old for the 5 for 25?

The Lake and Stars is the ultimate vision of feminism, beauty and vintage. it's time to grow up, start feeling sexy at ALL times, not just when you want to show off for your significant other. under that business suit, under those hipster cutoffs, under that New Years Eve gown...slip these on. guaranteed to make you walk taller, with a little more swivel ;)

Eco Emma

our little Hermione never ceases to please us with her continued success in the fashion realm. i don't know about you, but her Burberry ads were something to be reckoned with. now Emma has decided to move into the designer world. a very dainty entrance, but just enough to wet our palettes. she's teamed up with Alberta Ferretti on five simple pieces, perfect for summer. whimsical. romantic. green. no not the color...(come now people, i thought we knew what that word meant to us fashion folk by now). i'm talking eco-friendly. one of the most important segments of design these days. altho i would have to say that the clothes aren't really my style - too dainty for me - i applaud her efforts and look forward to more collaborations from her.

also check out Emma's thoughts about her new line on New Yooxer.

oh, and what do i think of Emma's new short hair? nothing short of brilliant.

pray for Japan, pay for Japan

in the wake of a devestating disaster, it is entirely up to us to help our fellow earth inhabitors. as the pitiful shopaholic that i am, i find it doubly satisfying to see my money benefiting me in more than one way. there's no excuse not to find some way to show your support for Japan. pretty much every designer and retail shop has been coming up with trinkets, tees and jewelry that will send portions (if not all) of the proceeds to the proper authorities. and trust me, with the cute stuff i've been seeing, how can you say no? so open your heart and your wallet without guilt. this one's a no-brainer.

*click any of the links to go directly to their pages to purchase :) remember...these are only a few. check with your favorite designers and shops to see what they may have!

what dresses taste like

ok, so maybe Balmain wasn't the the opener you expected me to showcase for spring 2011 fashion week. i admit, the dark tones can be quite daunting when you expect to see nudes, whites and pastels. so maybe Alexandre Herchcovitch is more your speed. more feminine. more sugary sweet. more spring.

im not usually easily impressed by a streamlined look. solid colors have never been my "thing"...however, the use of this by Alexandre has an exactness to it. Rather than speaking basic or boring, it's surprisingly and scrumptiously gorgeous. Yes, i mean scrumptious. his colors aren't the usual pitty pat of pastels, but rather shades of honeydew melon, cherry red, peachy oranges and even a cotton candy blue. tantalized yet? and on top of that, the matching gloves, shoes and EVEN lipstick give it an over-the-top feel, although it still "basic" in idea. throw in a couple dresses with patterns that look like swirled ice cream and even a "snow cone" jumper - voila. a perfect spring line for any girly-girl, and maybe even me.

embalm me...in Balmain

few designers encompass the body and soul of femme rock and roll, like Balmain. that ripped, grungy, distressed look, laden in zippers and studded embellishments - almost to the point that it seems like someone ate a guns & roses cd and blew chunks over the runway. this season, Balmain does not disappoint. Minus the dramatic shoulder pads this time, it is the same dark, brooding line we know and love, infused with a white blazer or bustier and some metallic jeans here and there to hint that this is the spring collection, not fall.

stick to what you know

we all have this problem: we have so many ideas jumbled in our brains and we have the energy of pepco, on a day when there isnt a thunderstorm. nevertheless...we feel like we need to do EVERYTHING! and all at once. sometimes, we honestly need to perfect our craft and then think about expansion.

House of Dereon, mmmmm, not so much. somehow Beyonce and her mom have moved from clothing line to a very RANDOM temporary tattoo line that will be sold at sephora. uhhhh, so we're not even moving into the beauty category - something that will have longevity, but temporary tattoos??? ::side eye::

it all stemmed from Beyonce's most recent ad for House of Dereon.

while i admit, i definitely like the spine tattoo on her back, what else can i say except its the same temporary tattoo idea from Chanel that sold in stores back in March. yawn. Chanel is a iconic fashion powerhouse, they're allowed to expand into any arena they want. House of Dereon, well, what have you conquered in the fashion world?
Perfect your craft, dear.

another jimmy collabo

i know we all remember when Mr. Choo collaborated with hunter boots for the fabulous black and silver croc wellies. i drool just thinking about them (we should all have a pair in our closets by now). well now he's teamed up with every girl's favorite comfy boot - Ugg.
Think comfort coupled with wild animal prints and rockstar studs. what more can a girl ask for?

Oh! and how could i forget...we're getting another addition to the Georgetown family. an Ugg store is opening up on September 30th on Wisconsin Ave. Whoopie

make room on your accessories palatte

in an age of "making a statement", there's no better way to speak through your clothes than exotic jewelry. you can easily make all black everything POP with a dash of enameled necklaces or a shimmery gold cuff. consider your outfit the broth of your personal primordial soup and your accessories the yummy ingredients.

House of Harlow is one of my current favorite jewelry lines. the edge of tribal designs coincided with the whimsicality of girly things like headbands is enough for any girl to find something her style. admittedly, i'm more on the side of the leather cuffs than a beaded headpiece...but to each her own.

out with the old, in with the...oversized

long gone are the days of "baby" tees and anything super tight (thank God!). now it's all about the laid back, the comfortable, the grunge chic. tees all over are now being made in a relaxed fit - slouchy, stretched out and yeah, even a little sloppy. what makes this look discheveled sexy and stops it from looking like your old bedtime tee, is pairing it with accessories. A vintage looking belt, a bad ass pair of heels, a structured bag. in fact, many of these tees come with their own embellishments to stress the validity that sloppy is sexy. think zoe kravitz. (my personal favorite fashion icon). whatever you do...lets not bring back the 90s. remember its supposed to be SLOUCHY not BAGGY. we don't wanna go walking around like bums, now do we??

here are some of my favorite tees:
